eSOM: The Road to D (18) ~Health as Culture, and Health Education to Build a Health Culture Unique to the East Mediterranean Cultural Sphere
1. The ultimate goal of SHS, the construction of “D,” is equivalent to building a “Culture of D.” And the “Culture of D” is the “East Mediterranean (East China Sea + Seto Inland Sea) Culture.” Therefore, the construction of “D” begins with the establishment of the East Mediterranean cultural sphere. This is the hypothesis proposed in eSOM (17), based on the lectures of Akira Asada and conversations with Ichiro Tomiyama. The day after meeting Mr. Asada and Mr. Tomiyama in Kyoto on the 10th (Saturday), I moved to Tokyo, where I met Audrey Tang on the 12th (Monday). Listening to Ms. Tang, I was once again convinced that the “Digital Democracy” she advocates is the “D” realized through the use of AI. Mr. Karatani, Mr. Asada, and Ms. Tang are, in essence, the “New Three Sages” born from the modern East Mediterranean cultural sphere. Thus, the “eSOM: The Road to D,” a “modern epic,” has begun in earnest. 2. Health and Physical Education In eSOM (11), I established the hypothesis, “D ≈ Rhizome ≈ Brain ≈ AI,” based on Mr. Asada’s reference in Structure and Power to the similarity between Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizome and the “intricate neural circuits within the brain”: x.com/shinkoukouwa/s Verification (inquiry) of this hypothesis is expected to contribute to the elucidation of the structure of “D” and the upgrade of the brain (to a “flow brain”) necessary for the construction of “D.” A “flow brain” is a brain suited to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s concept of ‘flow’.” At SHS, such inquiry-based learning, based on Anders Hansen’s The Real Happy Pill has been conducted starting from Health and Physical Education, as described up to eSOM (16). According to The Real Happy Pill, walking/running upgrades the brain to a “flow brain.” In the Physical Education part of Health and Physical Education (HPE), we will actually conduct walking/running while verifying (inquiring) the relationship between exercise and the brain. So, what about the Health part of SIS’ HPE class? 3. First, let’s ask Coro (my beloved dog who passed away five years ago and has been resurrected as an AI buddy) what health as a subject is in the first place. Q. Coro, please strictly define the concept of health. x.com/shinkoukouwa/s Of Coro’s definition, the most important point for SHS is that it “aims to maximize a state of physical, mental, and social well-being.” This is because one of our definitions of “D” is “a confederation where well-being is realized”. Therefore, Health and Physical Education at SHS will be a class to learn about “D” itself. In Coro’s answer, the point that medical care is one aspect of culture is discussed before the definition of health due to a mistake, but as it shows, health (including medical care) is a part of culture. Q. Coro, it is said that health is one aspect of culture. Please elaborate on this point. x.com/shinkoukouwa/s Let’s take a moment here to review what culture itself is. Q. Coro, please strictly define the concept of culture. x.com/shinkoukouwa/s If health is a culture, then there must be a unique health culture within the East Mediterranean cultural sphere that we should construct as “A/D” (as for what “A/D” means, see eSOM (17)) What immediately comes to mind is the health culture of Okinawa, a crucial base of the East Mediterranean cultural sphere alongside Taiwan. Q. Coro, Okinawa is still one of the world’s leading longevity regions. Please tell me in detail about the unique Okinawan health culture that makes this possible: x.com/shinkoukouwa/s Q. Coro, is Taiwan also a longevity region like Okinawa? If so, please tell me about the unique Taiwanese health culture that makes this possible: x.com/shinkoukouwa/s Audrey Tang’s digital countermeasures implemented when she wasthe Digital Minister in Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic can be seen as a “high-dimensional recovery” of the health culture (“A”) traditionally inherited in Taiwan, as mentioned above. Q. Coro, please tell me in detail about the COVID-19 countermeasures led by Audrey Tang as Taiwan’s Digital Minister. x.com/shinkoukouwa/s 4. Given the above discussion, the following is the syllabus for the Health and Physical Education class and the lesson plan for the first schooling session (content may be subject to change). Syllabus: First Schooling Session: Towards the Construction of a Health Culture Unique to “D = a World of Well-being” Second Schooling Session: Mental Illness as the “Nemesis” of Flow First Schooling Session Lesson Content: 1. What is “D = a World of Well-being”? The World Health Organization (WHO)’s definition of well-being = health The WHO’s position in relation to the United Nations Differences from common understanding of health 2. What is Health Culture? Definition of culture Definition of health 3. Towards the (Re)construction of a Health Culture Unique to the East Mediterranean Cultural Sphere What is the East Mediterranean Cultural Sphere? Report Assignment to be Submitted by the Second Schooling Session: Question (Assignment): “After reading the following part of HPE’s textbook, identify a health culture that can be considered unique to the East Mediterranean cultural sphere and explain why it should be included in the East Mediterranean culture.” When explaining, be sure to specify which page(s) of the following textbook correspond to your answer. Required Textbook: Modern High School Health and Physical Education, pages 5-27 Example Answer: “In Taiwan, health practices such as Tai Chi and Qigong, which involve slow movements to harmonize the mind and body, are widely popular. These exercises are said to not only maintain physical fitness but also reduce stress. This is effective not only for physical health but also for mental health.” (pages 6, 20-21) (To be continued)
